Retail

Retail software where the stock number matches the shelf

POS, live inventory and multi-branch reporting for shops, supermarkets and speciality retail.

Problem

A till, a spreadsheet and a separate ledger that never agree, and billing that stops when the connection drops.

Software

One platform where sales, purchases, returns and transfers write to a single stock ledger, with offline-capable billing.

Result

Stock that reconciles at count, branch comparison on one screen, and a queue that keeps moving during an outage.

Retail is a counting problem disguised as a selling problem. A shop can price well, market well, and still lose margin because the number in the system does not match the number on the shelf. Every retail system we build starts from the movement ledger — sales, returns, purchases, transfers, adjustments — and treats the till as one writer into it rather than as the source of truth.

EncoderPOS is the production form of that thinking: barcode-first billing, held carts, split tenders, per-branch stock, purchase and goods-received flows, customer ledgers, and reports an owner reads without needing them translated. It runs for supermarkets, grocery, pharmacies, cosmetics, electronics, fashion and hardware retail.

Where a business needs something the product does not model — an unusual pricing rule, a loyalty scheme, an integration with an existing accounting package — we build it as custom software on the same architecture rather than bolting a second system onto the counter.

What breaks in retail

  • Stock that drifts from reality

Sales, returns, damages and transfers each change stock, and most small systems record only the first. The gap shows up as dead capital and unexplained shrinkage.

  • The counter cannot wait for the network

A queue does not pause because the connection dropped. Billing has to continue locally and reconcile without creating duplicate sales.

  • Branches that cannot be compared

Once a second location opens, per-branch stock, pricing and permissions become a data-model question, not a reporting one.

  • Reports nobody trusts

If profit is calculated from a different dataset than the one the till writes to, the owner stops opening the report.

FAQ

Retail — questions

Do we have to replace our till hardware?

Usually not. EncoderPOS runs in a browser on standard retail hardware and works with common barcode scanners and receipt printers. We verify your specific devices during discovery.

Can billing continue if the internet goes down?

Yes. Offline billing is a product feature: the till keeps selling locally and syncs when the connection returns.
